WEEK 13 (Topic 12)

 Schools Reinforce Inequality

In this topic, what I can summarize is the higher education has always been promoted as the answer to social inequality. Getting an education was a means of pulling yourself out of poverty, landing a good job and making a comfortable living. As I have learned before about the Conflict theorist, they believed education plays a negative role in society and maintains social inequality as it forces students to accept their lower status in society. This situation can affects the motivation of the students from lower-class to success in their studies and give burden to them. At the end, after graduating from study, they only get a job from the lower hierarchy. In contrast, students from high-class families easily to get privileges such as in the best education and getting a better jobs. Thus, students from lower social classes will not have the same opportunities as the high social classes students.
