WEEK 3 (Topic 2)
School as a Social Institution
In this topic, I have learned about the main social institutions that every society had which is school, government, family religion and media. The most important of social institution is school because it is the place where the children mostly learn about the interaction and communication skills other than at home. It has identifiable structure and a set of functions in supporting the society's survival. In addition, school is known as an agent for culture development which is it better prepares individual for life in a society that is being enriched by different cultures. It preserves the culture, a society established school to preserve and transmit its culture to the coming generations. Besides that, this topic also have discussed about the Malaysian school. As we know, Malaysia is known as a multi-racial country which the population is including different types of ethnic groups such as Malay, Chinese, Indian and the Native. But, unity is a sensitive issue in Malaysia and which is must be taken care carefully to maintain peace and harmony in this country. That is the reason for Malaysian Education Blueprint was formed and one of its system's aspirations is committed to address the issue of unity at the education system's level.
